MHSFCA Executive Director’s Blog – August 2020

By Scott Farley
Executive Director, MHSFCA

On the eve of the start of high school football practice in Michigan, here is this month’s report from the executive director of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association:

SEASON KICKOFF

After much waiting, anxiety and many temperature checks, we finally get to start football practice on Monday, August 10! We are facing many new and different protocols and ways of operating. It is imperative that we all take these issues seriously and follow the protocols set forth by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Covid-19 is our opponent right now, just like our Week One opponents! Let’s work together to win!

Please make sure you are following MHSFCA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

We will be pushing out a lot of content in the days to come and we need all of our members to retweet and share our information to spread our pro-school sports message.

We want to encourage moms in your program to post pictures and comments about their wish to have fall school sports! Check out our pages for examples.

VIRTUAL MEETING SUCCESS

Two very important Zoom meetings happened in the past week.

A total of 340 head coaches met to review the MHSAA’s Return to Play document and review rules relating to the Pre-season Down Week. We had some great dialogue and important information was disseminated.

We also had our summer Board of Directors meeting virtually on August 1. Lots of great planning and brainstorming on the future of high school football in Michigan took place. Each of the association’s major events (clinic, all star game, leadership conference, hall of fame, senior showcase and awards) were discussed in the context of the pandemic. Adjustments can and will be made, if necessary. We are fortunate to have many committed leaders who will make thoughtful decisions regarding these events for 2021.
