Zach was a three-year starter on the Grandville High School Varsity football team as a defensive lineman. During his senior year as co-captain, he accumulated seven tackles for loss; caused 3 fumbles and recovered 2 fumbles from his defensive line position. Zach is known for his intensity both in practice and in the game and is referred to as “Crazy Horse” by his team mates. Coach Shaw described him saying “his motor never turns off. Zach plays with passion and heart.” He led the team to two OK Red Conference titles. His “passion for excellence” led to several awards: All Conference 1st Team; All State 1st Team; Team MVP; All Area Dream Team and Great Eight selection.
When Zach is not playing football you can find him in the weight room where he holds several school records: Squat, 565; Clean, 275 and Dead Lift, 450 lbs.
“A leader on and off the field,” Zach said, “I want to give a special thanks to my parents and family for always being there every game and cheering me on. Especially to Dad for his support.” He also thanked Coach Shaw and his coaches at Grandville for giving him “the opportunities of the last four years.” He said, “The defensive coaches have especially played a big roll in my career.” He thanked Coach Lapcek for “seeing potential in a ninth grader and thanked Coaches Gkekas and Goebel for “challenging me everyday to go above and beyond! You’re why I’m here today.” Zach also thanked his team for “making these four years great. It has been an awesome privilege to play for the Dawgs.”
