Coach Barbieri graduated from Detroit Servite HS in 1973. In 1977, he graduated from Olivet College with a BA in education, double majoring in social studies and PE. He was part of the Olivet College MIAA League Championship Football Team in 1974. In 1980 he received his Masters in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.

Coach Barbieri was hired in 1977 as a teacher for the Hartland Consolidated Schools. He taught there for 7 years and then in 1983 he became the athletic director and assistant principal for 8 years. He was an assistant football coach for 9 years and the Hartland Head Football Coach for 6 years. He also coached JV basketball and was the Head Softball Coach. In 1992 Coach Barbieri took a teaching job, Head Football Coach and assistant softball coach at Gaylord HS until 1999. In 2000 he was the defensive coordinator at Boyne City HS. In 2001 Coach Barbieri took a teaching job at Dexter HS and has been the Dreadnaughts Head Football Coach for 6 years. He is also an assistant track coach at Dexter. He has worked the University of Michigan football camp for 24 years.

Tom is married to Elaine, a first grade teacher at Dexter, and they have 3 wonderful sons. Angelo is age 11 and twins David and Joseph are 7. His brother Bob is in the pressbox taking stats for today’s game and his mother Adelaide is in the stands cheering on the West All Stars.
