Shelton started playing football at the age of eight for the Pop Warner Oak Park Trojans. As a youth he played linebacker and tight end. As a freshman he played at Detroit Northwest HS. He played for Crockett Tech during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Shelton was named team captain his junior and senior years. His sophomore year, he played special teams and was in for “a few snaps on defense.” The summer of his junior year he earned a starting spot at defensive end.

As a junior, Shelton was named 1st team All City and honorable mention All State. He finished the season with 17 sacks. At the end of his junior year he was named to the Michigan High School Tremendous 26. He was also awarded the team leadership award from Head Coach Rod Oden. As a senior he was 1st team All City and All State. He also participated in track and field and was a member of Crockett’s baseball team. As a junior he ran the 100 and 200 meter dash and threw the shot put and discus.

Shelton was aslo a member of the Young Men Of Excellence, which is a male mentoring organization that participates in numerous community service projects. Shelton will attend Saginaw Valley State University on a football scholarship. He thanked, “God most of all for blessing me with talent and athletic ability.” He also thanked his parents, Karyn and Kevin, and the rest of his family and friends for their love and support.
