Assistant Coach Rick Applin
Boyne City High School
Coach Rick Applin graduated from Iron River High School in 1965. He earned his Bachelors degree from Michigan State University in 1969 and his Masters degree in 1980.
In 2000 Rick retired from teaching in Michigan after 31 years. He coached football (25 years) and baseball (27 years). He is a member of the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame (1996). Rick has been an MHSFCA Assistant Coach of the Year twice, while coaching for Mark Covert at Fenton in 1988 and for Tom Barbieri at Dexter in 2010.
Rick moved to Wisconsin and coached there for nine years. Since moving back in 2009 he has coached at fourschools, with the most recent being Boyne City this past fall.
Rick said, ” After hearing about all the great experiences other coaches have said they had at the All Star game, I am really looking forward to the week with some of the best kids in the state.”
