Matt is the youngest son of Anne and Jerry Smith. His two older brothers are Eric and David Smith. He is the grandson of the late Duane Webster and Mary Ann Webster Miller and Eldon Smith and Grandma Adra Smith. He is Uncle Matt to Chandler and Christian and nephew to many aunts and uncles. 

Matt was a three-year, two-way starter at tight end and defensive end, where he received numerous awards over the years including defensive player of the year and “Iron Tiger”. He helped the team to Ford Field State Championship game appearances in Division 7: in 2009 (runners-up) and in 2010 (State Champions).

In addition to football, Matt has also been a three year starter on the Division 4 three years running back-to-back State Champion Hudson wrestling team, as well as being a 2010 individual State Champion wrestler at 189 pounds. 

Matt thanked his parents, and especially his brother David for “all his love, support and guidance through the years.” He also thanked all his coaches, especially Coach Luma, Coach Rogers, and Coach Marry and his principal Mr. Horwath “who have supported me over the years”. He thanked all his sponsors who supported him by purchasing ads for the program. Finally, Matt thanked all his teammates and the Hudson community members for “being such great football fans.”
