L.J. started playing football in fourth grade for Our Lady of the Lakes. As a freshman he started on special teams and was a backup running back and defensive back. As a sophomore he was the starting safety and led the special teams in tackles. In L.J.’s junior season, he started as cornerback and running back and after four games was moved to starting quarterback. L.J also was the punter and place-kicker. As a senior he was a captain and played many offensive positions depending on game situations. He led the team in rushing yards, receiving yards and scoring (198 points). L.J. threw 17 touchdown passes with 6 interceptions for his career. He was 13/17 in field goals and broke the school record with a 45-yard field goal. L.J. also had 17 defensive interceptions and 14 fumble recoveries. During L.J.’s four-year career, the team accumulated two Regional and three District titles. He acquired a nickname from The Oakland Press, “Mr. Everything.”

L.J. was also a four-year letter winner in baseball, where he was all league. The team captured two District and one Regional Title, losing in the quarterfinals in 2008. L.J. also played varsity basketball and the team captured one District title.

L.J. thanked all his family, friends, teammates, and coaches, “for their support and a great four years, especially Hall of Fame Coach Mike Boyd, Mel Nuss, Joe Seeterlin, Greg Alvis, Jim Garris, Steve Troy, Mike Fras, Mike Artley, Rob Novy, Dan Casey, and Chuck Snarey.”
