2007 All Star Coach West
Assistant Coach Ken Koenig
Dexter High School
Ken graduated from Sterling Heights HS in 1989. He earned his BS from Eastern Michigan University in 1994. In the spring of 1992, Ken started his coaching career at Ann Arbor Pioneer HS as an assistant varsity baseball coach. The following spring he became the JV baseball coach for Ann Arbor Huron HS and held that job up until 1995. Ken accepted his first teaching job at East Detroit HS and became an assistant football coach for the Shamrocks and stayed on staff for 6 years. While at East Detroit he also coached track and baseball. Ken then left East Detroit and took a teaching and coaching job at Dexter HS where he has worked as a social studies teacher and assistant football coach under Tom Barbieri and has been there for 6 years. Ken was named assistant coach of the year in 2006.
Ken has been married to Kara for 13 years and has two sons Kyle 11, and Caden 7. His family has made many sacrifices so that he can coach, for which he is grateful. “I have had the opportunity to work with some great coaches in the past that have influenced me tremendously: Dennis Brown, Ron Ruzzin, Ira Hamden, Rip Kinney, Steve Coffee, Tom Barbieri, and Matt Seidl. These gentlemen have taught me a lot about working with young athletes and getting the most out of them.”
“It is certainly a great privilege and honor to have this opportunity to coach in the HS All star game. Coaching young people has been something that I have always enjoyed doing and I thank all those who have made what I do possible.”
