Joseph said, “I was always the youngest child growing up, but I had my athletic older brother Andrew, and sister Jessica to always look up to. My sister Jessica was a synchronized figure skater who competed all over the world. My brother Andrew was a dominant goalie on his hockey team in high school leading his team to win his league. Also I look up to both my parents, Larry and Teresa Lechkun, who always push me to succeed and do my best. My family supported me all the way through my athletic career and will continue to.”

Joe started playing football nine years ago for the Saint Clair Shores city football program. Joe was named team Captain and was MVP as a senior and was Defensive MVP four of his last five years. In both his junior and senior seasons, he was named First Team MAC Blue All Academic, First Team All Conference – MAC Blue and Second Team All County Defense. In his senior year, he added to his list of awards by being named Honorable Mention All East Michigan.

In addition to football he was a part of the band in ninth grade, hockey from his freshman to junior years, wrestling in his senior year, baseball as a freshman and sophomore, and Lacrosse as a junior and senior. He was also involved in the school Community Action Coalition, Student Council and National Honors Society. He was on the homecoming court and was active in his church youth group.

Joe thanked, “All the coaches I have ever had. They are the reason I play the way I play.” He thanked, “My family, they have always been there to support me and cheer me on. I thank my cousin Gregory, for always being able to support me in every game and push me to become a better football player. Thank you Mom and Dad for your unconditional love and support for everything that I’ve done in life. You guys truly make me the man I am today and I wanted to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to achieve anything I’ve ever wanted. I love you guys.”
