Joe Fondren

Joe was involved in the Montrose Ram Football Program since seventh grade. He was a three-year varsity starter as a wide receiver. As a junior, he helped lead the team to the 2002 Division 5 State Championship crown. He was a team captain his senior year along with being named co-MVP in both his junior and senior years. His accomplishments also included two time 1st team All State, three time 1st team All League, and selection to the Detroit Free Press Dream Team. Joe was also chosen by the Kiwanis Club of Flint as the September 2003 Student­ Athlete for the month. Joe set several school records including: most catches in a game, 11, most catches in a season, 64, most yards per catch averaging 15.6, longest punt return, 94 yards, longest punt return average, 42.4 yards per return, and most receiving yards averaging over 1,000 yards per season. In addition, Joe set the state record for most career catches with 177 and was ranked second for most two-point conversions.

Joe also played basketball beginning in the third grade and continuing through 11th grade. He was a two-year varsity starter. He also played on the Montrose Youth Baseball League for five years and on the junior high team for two years.

 

Academically, Joe earned a 3.875 GPA and he graduated with high honors in the top ten of his class. Joe was elected Vice President of his senior class and, along with the rest of the football team, volunteered time reading stories to elementary students.

 

Joe thanked his family, friends, teammates, coaches, fans, and everyone who has and will support him throughout his career. “You have all been an inspiration to me.”
