Assistant Coach Jim Hunter

Onekama High School

 

Jim Hunter has coached football and taught high school science and physical education for 28 years. He and his wife Mary, also a teacher, have been married for 26 years and have two sons. Jake who is 24 and finishing his masters program at Northern Michigan University, and Luke who is 21 and attending West Shore Community College.

 

Jim played football at Alma College and started coaching football at the freshman level while student teaching at Alma High School. He got his first teaching position in 1978 at Manistique where he was the junior varsity coach for two years before becoming the head coach in 1980. After 11 years in Manistique, Jim succeeded MHSFCA Hall of Fame coach Jim Taylor at Onekama where he has been the head coach for the past 16 years Besides football Jim has been a head coach in basketball, wrestling, and track.

 

Coach Hunter said, “It is a great honor to have the opportunity to coach some of the state’s best football players with such a talented and distinguished group of coaches at some of the finest facilities anywhere. I am very thankful and thrilled to have this experience.”
