2004 All Star East Coach
Assistant Coach Jeff Keller
East Grand Rapids High School
Coach Keller is a 1970 graduate of Birmingham Seaholm High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. Jeff received his B.A. from Alma College in 1974 where he played football and baseball. He has also earned an M.A. from Michigan State University in Educational Administration.
Jeff has been teaching English and coaching football since 1974. After being an assistant at Troy Athens High School, Jeff became the head coach at Troy High School in 1979 where he led the Colts to three SMA League Championships, three playoff appearances, and to the Class A state finals in 1985. After leaving Troy in 1991, Jeff became the head coach at Hastings High School in 1992, leading the Saxons to an OK White League Championship and to playoff appearances in 1999 and 2001. Since 2002, Jeff has been coaching at East Grand Rapids High School where the Pioneers have been 14-0 for the last two years and have won the Division III State Championship in ‘02 and ‘03.
In 1985 the Detroit Free Press named Coach Keller the Dream Team Coach of the Year and the Detroit News also named Jeff the Michigan High School Coach of the Year. He was also named MHSFCA Regional Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1986. He was the Detroit Lions Coach of the Week in 1999. Jeff was a Regional Director for the MHSFCA.
Jeff credits his success as a football coach to the constant support of his family: his wife, Sally, of 27 years; daughter, Sarah and her husband Bob, (and two grand kids); sons Andy, (who also coaches at East Grand Rapids High School); and Joey, (who plays football at the Air Force Academy). He said, “It’s a great honor coaching in the 2004 All Star game. I appreciate the opportunity the MHSFCA has afforded me to work with some of the best coaches and players in the state of Michigan.”
