He had a critical impact at the State Championship game playing against Country Day at Ford Field where Marine City went on to win the Division 4 state title in 2007. Jamel has received multiple awards and recognition throughout his career.

Jamel said, “I give special thanks to my fans and supporters, all MC football supporters, coaches, doctors, trainers, Dr. McCormick DDS, all my teammates moms and dads, Grandpa, Aunt LeeAnn, Nathan and my friends.” Jamal also gave a special thanks “to my mom who never gave up on me and showed me how to focus on positive energy and learn to expel the negative and learn from the experience.” He thanked “my step-dad, Wayne Corbat, whose critical thinking on or off the field had a great influence on who I am today. My grandpa who is proud of me no matter what, my father Jan Abrams who put aside some energy to come to my games throughout the last four years even though his health is poor. Last but not least I thank the ones who didn’t believe in me. You truly gave me the motivation to go on to the next level.”
