Buttson2009 Woman of the Year

Helen Buttson

Allen Park

Helen has been involved in various capacities with the football programs at Aquinas HS, Woodhaven HS and Allen Park HS.  Helen has also made a large contribution to the MHSFCA. She recently retired from working in Labor Relations and Human Resources with the Third Circuit Court of Michigan.

Helen has done just about everything you could do as a coach’s wife,  including scouting, kitchen work at football camp, fund raising, organizing banquets, parties & dinners, and everything in between.

For the Association, Helen works the All Star Banquet, the Hall of Fame Banquet and hosts the East All Star selection meeting.  She also helps with the notification and organizational process for the East All Stars.

Helen is proudest of her work at Allen Park High School, where as a football mom, she created the Adopt-A-Jag program in 1995.  This program is a type of Big buddy/Little buddy program that exists between the high school players and the elementary school students, and it is still going strong 14 years later.

She also is on the Wild Game Dinner Committee at Allen Park, a fund raiser that helps support all 24 varsity sports teams.
Helen said, “Being part of a high school football program is rewarding in so many ways. For me, I must say that it has brought my husband and I an extended family of many coaches, wives and their children.”
