Heath is the son of Don and Laurie Hoogerhyde; his siblings are Holly and Hayden. Holly is married to Grant Alexander and they have three daughters, Jayde, Nevaeh and Reese.

Heath started playing football in the second grade with the Kentwood Gladiators. His family moved to Caledonia where he played for the Caledonia Youth Football program from fourth grade for the Seventy-Eighter’s. In his freshman year Heath played the first five games with the freshman team and the last four games with the junior varsity team. He was moved up to the varsity team as a sophomore but only played five games due to injury. He recorded 46 tackles and one interception while playing safety on defense; he also had 9 receptions for 124 yards on offense. In his junior year, Heath played running back, receiver and safety, recording 74 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense and he had 92 carries for 526 yards and 6 touchdowns and 18 receptions for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Heath’s breakout senior year ended with Caledonia losing to Muskegon in the State Semifinals. Caledonia finished the year with a 9-4 record. Heath had 28 carries for 208 yards in the regional final at Mattawan. His season stats were 112 tackles and 9 interceptions, one for a TD against Lowell and 161 carries for 894 yards and 8 touchdowns with 26 receptions for 508 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Heath played three years of basketball in high school and he played four years of varsity baseball. He plans to play football and baseball at GVSU.

Heath thanked his mom and dad, his brother Hayden and sister Holly and her family for their support throughout his high school years. He also thanked all the coaches and players he has played with and for throughout the years. He gave a, “Special thank you to my #1 fans Grammy and Grandpa Hoogerhyde, Grandpa Steffens, Aunt Barbie and Uncle Matt.”
