Derek Sievers is the son of Dennis and Christine Sievers. He has a brother Austin (20) and a sister Mackenzie (16).

 

Derek started his football career at age eight in the Southlake Texas Youth Football program. He was a three-year varsity starter at middle linebacker and fullback at Byron Center High School. Derek also punted, kicked and long snapped for the Bulldogs during their two playoff seasons his junior and senior season and was named OK Green first team All Conference in the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Derek received many Bulldog football awards including Defensive MVP in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He was named to the Grand Rapids Press Dream Team in 2009 and was named as an All State selection by the Detroit Free Press in 2010.

In addition to football, Derek was on the varsity track and field team at Byron Center for four seasons. Derek was the State Champion in the discus and All State in the shot put as a junior and All State as a sophomore. Derek will compete in track and field for the University of Michigan next season. Derek was a finalist for the Detroit Athletic Club’s male athlete of the year in 2011.

Derek thanked Coach Marc Cisco, Coach Gasper Giarmo and Coach Jerry Diorio for “helping me to become the best football player I could be.” He also thanked Coach Sam Angell for teaching him how “to throw heavy things, very far.”
