In his tenth grade year he started playing for Pershing High School on junior varsity as a fullback and linebacker where he led his team to an undefeated season and the championship game. After his JV season he was moved up to varsity where he helped the varsity win their last two games of the season. Their record was 2-7. His junior season was one of his best. He led his team to a 3-6 record and was named All City at Linebacker and All State Honorable Mention. He had 90 tackles, 7 sacks, and 10 tackles for loss. He also played offensive guard. As a senior he played running back and linebacker and was the team captain. DeJuan helped his team to a 6-3 record and his team went to the Division B City Championship Game. He was named All City Honorable Mention as a running back. He had 647 rushing yards, 89 carries, and 7 touchdowns. DeJuan was used as a “receiving” running back and had 12 receptions for 111 receiving yards, an average 9.2 yards per catch.
DeJuan was also on the Pershing track team where he ran the 200 M and 100 M dashes. DeJuan devoted his off seasons to speed, strength, and conditioning training.
Dejuan thanked “God for everything he did for me and blessing me with this wonderful gift.” He thanked his parents for “always being there when I needed them and always pushing me to achieve all my goals.” He also thanked his coaches “for helping me and preparing me mentally and physically for the game and helping me keep my head on right.”
