Darren started playing football in fourth grade, playing on the Green Hornets. Darren was a two-year starter for the varsity squad, as a strong safety on defense and a tight end on offense he also was a long snapper. Darren was selected by his Clintondale coaches to receive the Mr. Hustle award at the end of the 2003 football season.
Darren was active in other sports during high school. In ninth grade he wrestled on the Clintondale J.V. team. He played baseball all through his childhood and went on to play four years of high school baseball. While attending Clintondale, Darren was on the National Honor Society for two years. He received the Respect and Responsibility award for four years. He received All Academic while he earned his letters in football and baseball by carrying a GPA of 3.63. In his spare time Darren likes to bowl. He carries a bowling average of 196.
Darren thanked his family, friends, coaches, and teachers for all their support during his high school years. A special thanks went to his football coaches: Jim Scarcelli, Dave Schindler, Scott Evans, Andy Scheel, Andy Kastl, and Mike Ward. To his teammates, Sam, Dan, Corey, Joe, Matt, Shaun, and Steve “just to name a few, along with the rest of the squad who played with me during those wonderful years at Clintondale High. A big Thank you and I’ll miss playing football with all of you.” Darren also thanked his parents, Dennis and Michelle, and family for their, “love and support by attending every game be it hot, cold, raining or snowing. Your support meant very much to me.” Darren plans to attend Wayne State University or Hope College to study Engineering.
