East Assistant Coach 2012 Rod Oden
Detroit Crockett High School
Coach Oden graduated from Detroit Northwestern. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his Masters from Marygrove College. Having been an educator in the Detroit Public School System, Rod will start his 13th year of coaching high school football in 2012. He has coached all 12 years at Crockett Technical High School. Oden also teaches English/Language Arts at the school.
He spent the first three seasons as Running Back Coach before being promoted to Offensive Coordinator in 2002. He spent two seasons as Offensive Coordinator, and, in 2004, Coach Oden became just the second head football coach in Detroit Crockett history.
In his seven years as head coach for the Rockets, Rod’s teams have made the MHSAA play-offs every year. He has a career record of 60-20. His teams have won 2 Detroit Public School League Championships, 7 District Championships, and 2 Regional Championships.
Some of Rod’s coaching accomplishments include, 2 time Detroit Public Schools Coach Of The Year, 3 time MHSFCA Regional Coach Of The Year, 2 time Detroit Free Press All Detroit Coach of The Year, 2 time Detroit News All City Coach of The Year, and 1 Time Detroit Lions Coach of the Week.
Rod and his wife, Latawn, reside in Oak Park. They have two children, Jacob (5), and Trinity (3 months).
