Byron was a three year starter on the offensive line (1980-1983) at three different positions, center, guard, and tackle, at Detroit Northern High School under Hall of Fame Coach John Dean.

Coach Culver began coaching the offensive line in 2000 under Robert Hunt at Detroit Kettering where he contributed to the team’s achieving a city championship in his first year and three straight appearances in the state play offs. Coach Culver has worked with ten all city players, four all metro players, and one all state player during his tenure at Kettering.  In 2006 Byron moveed to Detroit Osborn with Coach Hunt where there hadn’t been a winning season in 20 years. Culver helped the Osborn Knights win two straight city championships and qualify for the state play offs for two of the four years he was there.  At Osborn, Byron helped develop six all city players, two all metro players, and one all state player. In 2012 Culver moved to Detroit Central which was coming off a one win and eight loss season. The Trail Blazers finished the 2012 season with a 6-4 season and a state play off berth. The 2012 season produced three all city players, and one all metro player.

Coach Culver is single. He is the son of Jessie and Alethea Culver.
