Brad is the son of Doug Horling and Pam Horling. He has one sister, Katie (20), a student athlete who plays volleyball at Oakland University.

Brad started playing football in the third grade, and loved it from day one. His high school football career began on the ninth grade team, and the following year, he played on the varsity team as a sophomore. During his three years as a varsity starter, Brad contributed to the success of the team in the running back, safety, punter, and kick return positions. In 2010, the CHIX finished their best season ever with an 11-1 record, an OK Green Conference Championship, and a District Championship. In the safety position his senior year, Brad gathered 62 solo tackles and broke school records by amassing 1668 yards and 33 touchdowns in a single season. He was honored by his coaches in both 2010 and 2009 with Offensive MVP awards.

Brad also participated in basketball and track and field during his high school years. His efforts earned him 1st Team OK Green All Conference in Basketball (2009-2010), 1st Team OK Green All Conference in Track & Field (2010), and Most Valuable Defensive Player in Basketball (2009-2010). Brad served as captain of the basketball team in 2010, and as a sophomore, competed with his team for the 2009 Class B state basketball championship.

Brad said, “I would like to thank God for blessing me with the ability to play the greatest sport in the world. I also thank my parents, family, and friends for supporting me; my coaches for putting in all the hours and teaching me the game; Anthony Adams for being a mentor on and off the field; and my teammates for all the memories and fun times.”
