Blake is the son of Jim and Jacquelyn Smith of Riverview. He has an older brother, Kevin, who also played football for the Pirates. He also has a younger sister, Deanna, who is on the varsity volleyball team.

Blake started playing football at the age on nine on the Riverview Juniors City team and after two years of playing offensive tackle for Juniors he played two more years for his middle school team. Blake believed that the years he had played football before Riverview Community High School were, “the stepping stones to my success.” During his freshman year of football at RCHS he was moved up to JV and played offensive guard and defensive nose guard. In his sophomore year, one third into the season, Blake was moved up onto the varsity team to play left offensive tackle. One of his most memorable sayings from his years playing football is, “You’re here to be seen, not heard.” Blake played varsity football for the rest of his career at RCHS. He started both ways in his junior and senior years at offensive tackle and at defensive lineman, end, and linebacker. Blake ended his senior year as team captain (along with three others), MVP, and The Biggest Hitter Award. His team went 8-1 in the regular season qualifying them for playoffs.

Other sports Blake participated in during his freshman year were baseball, where he played outfield. He also wrestled for his first two years of high school and had been ranked first at the 189 weight class for part of his sophomore season.

Blake thanked his parents for all of the support they have given to him and to the program. He also thanked all of his coaches and teammates for giving him “the best years of my life.”
