Austin Lucas is the son of Phil and Deanna Lucas. His older brother, Andy (21), attends Hope College.Austin started playing football in the third grade.  He played Pop Warner until the fifth grade when he was moved up to the seventh grade Rocket team due to his size. He played in Rocket until eighth grade. He started on JV as a freshman. His sophomore year he was moved to varsity and started as right tackle and played there for three years. He was also a back up defensive lineman and defensive end and played on special team packages as well.

Austin’s team went to the state playoffs twice during his years, winning a district title in his senior year. His sophomore year he was voted the most improved player. His junior year he was named lineman of the year, first team Highland Conference and was team captain. In his senior year he was awarded Lineman of the Year, First Team All Conference, First Team All Area by the Cadillac News, First Team All State and team captain.

Austin was also active in the National Honor Society and the school choir.

Austin thanked, “All my family members that have supported me through many years. I thank my parents, grandparents, brother, aunts, uncles and cousins, along with all my friends and the whole community of McBain for the overwhelming support of the entire program. But mostly I thank my fellow players and teammates through the years, they are the best brothers a guy could ask for. I also thank my coaches through all the years, especially Coach Maloney for the change he brought to our program in his first season back at McBain in my senior year.”
