Andrew is the son of Peter and Michelle Gikas and youngest of three boys. His oldest brother, Jason, attends The University of Michigan and his brother, Joey, attends Michigan State University.

Andrew’s football career began in elementary school where he played quarterback on his flag football team. He has been playing tackle football since seventh grade where he attended East Hills Middle School. Andrew was a three-year varsity starter where he earned many distinctive awards playing on both sides of the ball. He was awarded OAA All League First Team honors in his junior and senior years, and Detroit News Second Team All North and All State Honorable Mention in his senior year. During his senior year, on the last Lahser High School football team, he had a total of 94 tackles and 12 sacks as defensive end while anchoring the offensive line at left tackle.

In addition to football, Andrew was a three-year starter on the varsity basketball team where he helped them win two consecutive district titles. Andrew has been a team captain for both teams and his leadership has earned him the position of Class President. Andrew not only excelled in competition but in the classroom as well. He was an OAA scholar athlete and has received the Principal’s Academic Excellence Award every year.

Andrew thanked his “parents, grandparents and brothers for all of their support. I especially thank my father for spending two weeks last summer traveling the country visiting colleges and attending football camps with me.” He also thanked his Lahser Knight coaches “for a great four years of high school football.”

Andrew looks forward to playing college football at the United States Air Force Academy.
