Obi was a three-year starter. During his senior year he led the Cougars to the Division 4 title game. He played both offense and defense on the varsity level. Obi received the Most Improved Player award his sophomore year, the MVP Offense award both his junior and senior years, and the MVP award his senior year. He was All City Second Team in football his sophomore year, All City First Team in his junior and senior years, and also All State Honorable Mention for two years. Obi’s career rushing yards, 2914, broke Catholic Central’s rushing yard record held since 1987. Defensively, as a senior, Obi made 35 tackles, 12 of which were sacks, and had one interception.

Obi was on the Honor Roll at GRCC. He was a Eucharistic Minister both at school and at his church, St. Andrew Cathedral. He also traveled to Nigeria to spend time with his grandparents. Obi was also a rugby player stand-out. His team made it to the National Championship in Texas and he participated in the Under 19 National Selection Rugby Camp in Indiana and Arizona.

Obi gave special thanks to his family and friends, “for their endless support and encouragement.” He also thanked his coaches, Tom and Joel Passinault, Jim Gavin, Geoff McManus, and Darren Smith, “for their guidance.” He thanked his teammates and students at Catholic Central, “for their support before, during and after games.”
