Jake is the son of Billy and Tracy Slobin. His older brother, Stephen (20), also played for Coach John Herrington at Farmington Hills Harrison High School.

Jake started his official career playing little league for the NFWB Vikings at age six and then played for the Farmington Rockets from fourth grade until eighth grade. During his little league career he played quarterback, fullback, linebacker, tight end and defensive end before finding his natural position of defensive tackle. His father Billy, has been the strength coach for The Hawks for over 25 years, where Jake played offensive guard as well as defensive tackle.

During his freshman year at Harrison, Jake was moved up to the junior varsity where he was a two-way starter on a 9-0 team. Jake’s sophomore year he was called up to varsity where he started at offensive guard in all 14 games and won, along with his older brother Stephen (Class of 2011), the MHSAA Division II State Championship. As a junior and senior, he was a two-way starter where he recorded 64 Tackles (25 TFL), 6 Sacks (8 Games) in 2011 and 97 Tackles (30 TFL), 8 Sacks (10 Games) in 2012. Harrison’s record, during Jake’s three varsity seasons was 31-5. Jake was named his teams Outstanding Lineman and Scholar-Athlete for the 2012 season.

Jake said, “First, I thank my parents for never missing a game and always being there for me. I am so grateful for my dad as he motivated me to become the best player I could possibly be. I thank my brother for being my biggest fan and closest friend who always pushed me to get better. I thank Coach Herrington for allowing me the opportunity to start on varsity for three years and improve as a player and a man.” Jake gave special thanks to his offensive and defensive line coach, Herstein. He said, “I could never thank you enough for everything you have done for me. You always believed in me and told me I was going to be the player I have become. Thank you for your time and effort put in to coaching me.” Jake also thanked, “My teammates and friends for making these past four seasons the greatest experience of my life. I have so many great memories that I will never forget.”
