Traivon Clayton was raised by a single parent, Gloria Odems. One of six children, Traivon “was the youngest out of the bunch.”

Traivon started playing football at the age of nine for a Pop Warner League team, the Midwest Tigers, he spent four years in little league before he moved to another geographic area and started high school football. Clayton was a two-sport athlete until his junior season when he was named All State in football as a receiver in Division 4/5 and earned a spot on the MLive Dream Team.

Clayton started playing JV at Dearborn Heights Robichaud before being moved up to varsity in his sophomore year. He said. “When I was moved it gave me the privilege to play along side one of my older brothers, Marquise Clayton, who was All State at defensive end and defensive tackle. Playing on the same team as  Clayton helped me build my confidence.” As a junior, Clayton played a much bigger role on the team as he became a two-way contributor. On the offensive side, Clayton recorded 44 receptions for 1332 yards, 16 touchdowns and on defense he recorded 63 tackles and 4 interceptions with 2 fumbles . His team lost in the first round of playoffs to Old Redford Academy.  In his senior year Clayton continued to impress his family and coaches. He had a “crushing year,” as he scored 16 touchdowns with 960 receptions and had 68 tackles with 2 interceptions. The team won a first round playoff game against Columbia Central before falling to Ida the following week.
