Tom Thornton

Offensive Guard

6’3″ 235 lbs.

High School, Class: Flushing, A

College: Ferris State University

 

Tom was a three-year starter for Flushing. A four-year “Iron Man” and three-year letter winner, he never missed a practice. Tom played both offense and defense for all three of his years on the varsity. He was selected Most Valuable Offensive Lineman as well as Most Valuable Defensive Lineman in his senior year. His other awards include an All Big Nine Honorable Mention Offensive Line as a junior. Tom was selected All Big Nine First Team Offensive Line and Second Team Defensive Line in his senior year. He was also elected team co-captain of the Flushing Raiders two years in a row.

 

      Tom also competed in track and field for four years bringing home awards in shot put, discus and high jump. He was All League in shot put and discus in his sophomore year and All League shot put and high jump the next year. As a junior, Tom took the Big Nine High Jump Championship as well as best of team throws in both shot and discus. He brought in the second highest point score overall and helped make the Raiders Big Nine Champions.

 

                         Tom will attend Ferris State University in the fall. He thanked all of his family and friends for their support and encouragement. He also gave special thanks to Coach Buckel, Coach Kelly, and all the rest of the Flushing football staff. Thanks also went to all of his teachers, advisors, coaches, the community of Flushing, and most especially to his Raider teammates for making his years at FHS so memorable.
