Thom always dreamed of playing football for the Milan Big Reds, being coached by Head Coach Steve Robb, and running under the “Big Red” banner on Friday nights. Thom began his Milan football career in seventh grade, and reached some of those boyhood dreams at the start of his sophomore year, when his varsity career started as a defensive end. Over the last three years, Thom started for the Big Reds, where the football program achieved two Huron League Championships; one MHSAA District Championship, and qualified twice into the MHSAA Football Playoff System.
Thom has contributed to the track team capturing two consecutive Huron League Team Championships. Thom was a captain for both the football and track teams. Thom earned a combined 9 varsity letters in football, wrestling, track and academics.
Thom expressed his deepest appreciation to the Milan Community for always providing opportunities and avenues for the children of Milan to pursue and achieve their dreams, whatever they may be. Thom gave humbled appreciation to Wayne State University Football Program, Staff and Family; especially Head Coach Paul Winters and Offensive Line Coach Terry Heffernan for providing him an opportunity. Thom also thanked his Mom and Dad; his brother, David, of whom he said, “I will always cherish the memories of playing alongside him in the trenches as part of Milan’s Fearsome Foursome;” his Papa and Grandma Blackmon; his Papa and Oma Dimond; Uncle Bob and Aunt Catherine Taylor, Cousins Courtney and Dru Taylor, and Rachel Schulz for their unwavering love and support over the years.
