Spencer is the son of Dennis and Lea Cairo of Rochester Hills. He has an older brother Matt, who was part of the 2003 State Championship Team won by Rochester Adams in his junior year. As captain his senior year in 2004, Adams went into the semi-finals undefeated only to lose to the eventual state champion that year, Muskegon. Matt has been an instrumental figure in Spencer’s development.

Spencer started his football career at Van Hoosen Middle School where he was a two-way starter his seventh and eighth grade years. As a freshman at Adams, Spencer was center and defensive tackle. He was brought onto varsity his sophomore year and played left tackle. His junior year Spencer started every game at either center or left tackle and played in spots at defensive tackle. Spencer was named captain his senior year and played offensive center and defensive tackle. Adams made it to the second round of the state playoffs before losing to Walled Lake Western by one point. Spencer had a tremendous season and was named, 1st team all league, all conference, all county, and all state. Spencer was recruited by many schools ranging from Division II to BCS programs.

Spencer is a basketball player as well. He started playing AAU basketball in 4th grade and continued through his junior year of high school. Spencer decided, after much contemplation, to forego his senior season of basketball to focus on football recruiting and training for his freshman year in college.

Spencer is very close to his family and attributes his success as a player and person to his mom, dad and brother. “My parents and my brother have been very supportive to me, without them I would not be where I am now.” His trainer, Greg Walczak has also been instrumental in his life as a trainer, role model and inspiration. Spencer also thanked his coaches and teammates for their support and friendship the past several years. “Coach Patritto and the other Adams coaches have been tremendous. Adams Football is an experience I will treasure the rest of my life.”
