Richard played football at Pioneer the four years he attended. He started his career as a freshman on the junior varsity team. In his sophomore year he became the starting running back on the varsity team, and that’s where he spent the next three years proving himself worthy of the job he was given. In his junior year he was awarded the Gatorade Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year 2004, and was named Most Valuable Offensive Back of the Year by his coaches and teammates.

Richard’s senior year was the best, he rushed for 1,990 yards on 270 carries, and had 22 touchdowns breaking school records at Pioneer that Aaron Bailey set in 1988. He finished with a career high 3,615 rushing yards. Richard was named captain of the 2005 varsity team. He was a three-year starter, offensive back of the year, and earned the Most Valuable Player of the Year.
