Ray is the son of Raphael and Joyce Tillman. He has two brothers Brian and Tyrone and two sisters, Patricia & Tyrea. 

Ray started playing football when he was six years old, where he would play with neighborhood friends, and on city leagues. He played with the Northside Steelers, which won the city championship two years in a row. As a freshman at Avondale High School, he played quarterback on JV squad and was team Most Valuable Player. He was able to play various positions. His senior year, the coach tried him at wide receiver, where he broke the state record gaining over 1700 yards. As team captain, he helped the team earn a spot in the playoffs. 

Ray also earned a four-year varsity letter in basketball, as a point guard, averaging 25 points per game. He led his team to first place. 

Ray said “I owe everything to my parents for being supportive of all my games and teaching me everything. I also thank the coaches, who coached me throughout the years, without their help I would not be where I am today. I thank the many family and friends that came out to support me rain or shine.”
