Paul, a native of the Detroit area, graduated from Harper Woods Notre Dame HS in 1963. He attended Central Michigan University where he captained the football team in 1966. He was named MVP for the Chips and chosen NAIA region All Star. Verska was also named to the Bill Kelly Dream Team when Coach Kelly retired from CMU. Paul graduated from CMU with a BS in Education in 1972 after a tour in Vietnam.

    Paul has received numerous coaching awards including: 1984 Catholic League Coach and AD of the Year, 9189 UPI Class B Coach of the Year, 1997 Regional and State AA Coach of the Year, induction into the MHSFCA Hall of Fame in 2001, Catholic League Central Division and Detroit News Class A Metro Coach of the Year in 2002, Catholic League Central Division, MHSFCA Regional and Detroit News Class A Metro Coach of the Year in 2006.

    During Verska’s six years at DeLaSalle, his teams have made four playoff appearances, won four District Championships, two Regional Championships, and two Semi-Final Championships. They’ve played for the State Championship twice.

    Verska said, “After taking two separate teams to the State Final Game, I thought I’d done it all but coaching the All Star Team is truely an honor I will never forget.

    Paul has been married to Kathleen for 34 years and has two children, Kristen a graduate of the University of Michigan’s School of Nursing and Nick, a graduate of West Point.
