Nick has been coaching football since 1976. Immediately out of high school his former head coach at St Johns High School asked him to coach. Nick then moved to Pennfield High School in Battle Creek and coached JV football from 1984 to 1991. He then served as an assistant varsity coach at Pennfield from 1992 to 1997. Nick became the Varsity Head Coach at Pennfield in 1999 and has served in that position since.

In his six years at Pennfield Nick has compiled a 57 and 11 won-loss record. His teams have won six Kalamazoo Valley Association championships in his six years with a 37 and 1 total won-loss record. In that time his teams have been awarded six KVA sportsmanship titles by rival conference teams. His teams have completed perfect 9 and 0 regular seasons each of the last three years and currently hold a 34 consecutive game regular season winning streak. His teams have participated in the MHSAA playoffs each of his six years and have won two district championships in that time. He has been voted MHSFCA Regional Coach of the Year each of the last three years, 2004, 2003, and 2002.

Nick credits his success as a football coach to the constant support of his family: Rita, his wife of 20 years, daughter, Theresa 16, and daughter, Nicole 9. He also cited the tremendous work of the whole football coaching staff at Pennfield High School for their efforts in building and maintaining a quality football program for the Pennfield community.

“It is a great honor to be selected as a coach of the 2005 All Star game. As I coach the great

athletes of this game I keep in mind the many players I have had the pleasure to coach at Pennfield and I know that they have made this honor possible.”
