Michael was a four-year starter and was a captain as a senior at Grand Rapids Christian where he played running back. As a freshman he was moved up from junior varsity. He played the last three games and started two of them. In those three games he gained 298 yards on just 23 carries. As a sophomore he started every game rushing for 1,100 yards on only 99 carries and scored 12 touchdowns . As a junior he had his best season in his high school career when he ran for 1,300 yards on 99 carries and made 14 touchdowns. As a senior, he ran for 700 yards on 80 carries with 300 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. In his high school career, he was twice All City, once All O.K. Conference – White, two times 2nd team All Area, one time  All Area Dream team, and one time All State Honorable Mention.

Michael also lettered in track and was a qualifier for the state track meet in 2008.

Michael thanked, “God for creating me and building me to be able to do what I’m capable of doing.” He also thanked his parents, Kenneth and Mieshay, “for giving me the talent and skills to be able to succeed.” He also thanked football coach George Garcia for “discovering my talent in the seventh grade and giving me a chance.” He thanked all his family for their support. He also thanked his high school coaches, “for the hard work we put in to get where we are now.” Finally, he thanked his teammates, “for the good and the bad times, though all of which, we stayed close.”
