Matt joined the varsity football team as a freshman, when he was pulled up for the playoff games, which led to a state championship. By his junior year he was a key two-way player for the Eagles. In two years as a running back Matt rushed for 2,237 yards, with 41 touchdowns. He also intercepted 7 passes with 2 of them returned for touchdowns. He was honored with the Super Iron Eagle award for never missing a football practice in three years. In Matt’s senior year as captain of the Oakridge Eagle football team the team had their first undefeated season and Matt’s second state championship.
Other than football, Matthew also played three years of basketball. He also helped coach a youth basketball team in his community.
Matthew thanked his family for “always supporting me, my coaches at Oakridge High School for all their hard work and dedication, the Oakridge football family for all their support and all of my teammates for helping to make the past four football season’s the best ever.”
