Malik is the son of Marcus McIntyre and Nyketta Dennison. He said, “I also have the privilege of having the best step-mother in the world in Mikishi McIntyre.” In total, Malik has five siblings, of which he is the oldest. He has three brothers, Tyreese McIntyre (16), Markeise Adams (9) and Mareece Adams (8). His sisters are Mariah Dennison (6) and Marketta Adams (8).

Malik started playing football at age four under the direction of his late uncle, Larry Thomas. For his freshman year Malik lived in Columbus, Georgia and attended North Side High School. He had a great year at North Side and received the MVP award. The next year he transferred to Berrien Springs. In his senior year he finished the season with 1,673 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was the leading rusher in Southwest Michigan, and won Berrien Springs’ athlete of the week twice. The team finished the season 9-2. Malik helped lead the team to two playoff appearances and competition for a district title.

While at Berrien Springs, Malik was involved in three sports in addition to football. He was on the track team starting his sophomore year and on the wrestling team one year. Malik said, “I tried my hand at power lifting for one winter, which was a great experience.”

Malik said, “The person who has always kept me motivated is my father. He motivates me in many ways on and off the field. I came from a poverty-stricken family, so anytime I feel like giving up I think about where I came from and that motivates me to do my best. Every time I step out on the field I play with the memory of my uncle who was my first coach and always believed in me. It is because of him that I wear #5. I use his memory to run with great purpose and I feel like I can’t be stopped! Last but not least, how could I not give credit to my coaching staff? They have had faith in me since day one. They motivated me on the field and inside of the classroom. They have pushed me to represent the community of Berrien Springs and represent Rock Nation to the best of my ability.”
