Kumehnnu is the son of Edwin and Ester Gwilly and was born in Liberia before moving to the United States when he was four years old. He has two older sisters, Kebbeh (26) and Massa (22), who currently live in Liberia.  Kumehnnu also has two younger brothers Numehnne (10) and Mahti (8). 

Kumehnnu has played football for four years and joined the varsity team as a sophomore where he played running back and linebacker.  He continued to play running back and linebacker throughout his high school career, and excelled both offensively and defensively. 

In addition to football, Kumehnnu was a three sport athlete playing three years on the varsity basketball team and two years on the track team.  Kumehnnu is also avid chess player, and was a member of the chess club at Utica for two years.  Kumehnnu is a great leader on and off the field, and has been a captain of the football, basketball, and track teams during high school.  

Kumehnnu thanked his parents, “for supporting me and being there for me in sports and in life throughout high school.” He thanked, “my brother and sisters for supporting me and giving me something to play for in each game.” Kumehnnu included a thank you to his grandmother, “for coming to many of the games my senior year even though she did not understand the sport and to all of my teammates throughout the years for the support and becoming like my family.” He thanked his coaches “for believing in me as a sophomore, who had never really played football before, and trusting that I would grow up to become a big part of the team.”
