Jaylon Dewon Hampton is the son of Michael and Jacqueline Gardner. Jaylon has four brothers, Jamele, Mic ‘Keal, Jordan and Justin. Jaylon grew up in a family of football lovers and was particularly influenced to play by his two uncles, Michael and Jackie Hampton.
Jaylon began playing football in the ninth grade at Kalamazoo Central. As a freshman, Jaylon’s team posted an impressive 7-2 record. During his sophomore year, Jaylon was named team captain of his JV team. Jaylon was moved to linebacker during his junior year where he excelled at the position averaging 11.5 tackles per game. At the end of a disappointing 4-5 junior season, he totaled 105 tackles and was the number three tackler in the state of Michigan according to MaxPreps.com. As a senior, Jaylon again led the team in tackles with 112 and was named second team All Conference and Defensive MVP.
Jaylon thanked his family, “for attending every game and supporting me.” He also thanked his coaches, Dana Chambers Sr., and Dana Chambers Jr. for helping him to become a better football player.
