Ian’s was a four-year, two-way starter for the Ferndale Eagles where he was captain for two years and led his team to the Oakland Athletic Association’s first round playoffs in 2006. He played several positions on both sides of the line. As a senior, Ian received Defensive Player, MVP and Iron Eagle (perfect attendance) awards from his team. He set a school record for most tackles in a season with 156 and set the all-time record with 401 career tackles. In his four-year career, Ian had 159 solos, 201 assists, 30 losses, 11 sacks, 14 hurries, 2 interceptions, 12 fumbles caused, 5 fumbles recovered and 61 big hits. On offense, he had 62 carries for 280 yards, 4 TD’s and 2 PAT’s.

Ian finished third in the state in wrestling in Division 2 in the 215 lb. weight class. He was a four-year member of the varsity wrestling team, qualifying for the state meet as a freshman. Ian was also a three-year member of the varsity track team. He was selected a member of Ferndale’s Positive Peer Influence group for two years and was a member of the Black History Club. In 2005 Ian received the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Young Man of the Year award.

Ian will attend Indiana University on a football scholarship. He will pursue a degree in Kinesiology. “I thank God for all my many blessings, my mother and father, my family for all their support, my Ferndale High School teammates, my teachers, my church family, the Eagles’ Nest and my coaches, especially Coach Dunlap, Coach Bassier, Coach George, Coach Crier, Coach Thibodeau, Coach Morgan, Coach Jones, Coach Garlow, Coach Pete, Coach Davis, Coach Huyck, Coach Cleo Wilson, Coach John Olsen and Coach Walker.”
