Greg started playing football in fourth grade, for the Northville/Novi Colts. After the Colts, Greg moved on to Northville High School, where he played on the freshman team and got pulled up to the varsity for their playoff game against Novi. In that game, Greg made four tackles on the kickoff team. As a sophomore, Greg started at linebacker for the varsity team, leading them in tackles with 91 and earning WLAA all league honorable mention. Greg also got to play with older brother, Doug, that year, which was a very rewarding experience for the whole family. As a junior Greg again led the team in tackles with 111 and earned All Area first team, WLAA honorable mention and defensive MVP for the Mustangs. As a senior captain, Greg again led the team with 185 tackles (59 solo), 2 interceptions, 2 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries. Because of injuries Greg also played fullback and guard on offense. Greg was AP honorable mention All State, Detroit News All Metro 2nd team, Detroit Free Press and Detroit News All Metro West, First team All Conference, All Area, and defensive MVP for the Mustangs. Greg had “the time of my life playing football” and said, “I know my experience with the Colts and Mustangs have prepared me well for the future at Wayne State University.”
Greg was on the varsity basketball team for two years and received WLAA all Western Division Honors as a senior averaging 12 points per game. Greg was also a member of the Northville High Honor Roll all four years with an overall GPA of 3.2.
Greg thanked his parents and siblings for supporting him in all his activities. He also thanked his Grandparents, Joan Anderson and Bob Rienas, for their “unconditional love and support.” He thanked, “every coach I had for teaching me the fundamentals to be successful and my friends for further enhancing my football experience.”
