Grant was a three-year varsity starter. He set a school record for career tackles (418) and was the football captain in both his junior and senior years. West Ottawa was O-K Red Conference Champions in 2005. As a senior, Grant had 128 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions for TD’s (95 yards and 27 yards), 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 blocked field goals.
Grant participated in three sports, football, basketball and baseball earning 10 varsity letters. He was basketball team captain his junior and senior seasons. He was an O-K Red All Conference baseball player three years, and a three-time all-district player. Grant holds the school record for RBI’s in a season (43). He was also the captain of West Ottawa’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Grant thanked “God most of all for allowing all of this to be possible.” He thanked his parents and grandparents for “always supporting and encouraging me.” He also to thanked his family, teammates, and friends, along with the “Black Hole and all of our other fans.” Grant gave a special “thank you to all the coaches, especially Coach Tulgestke, Coach Zegunis, Coach Chapman, and of course my pops.”
