Gino played football at Jefferson for four years, two years on varsity. He started football when he was in fifth grade playing for a church in his area. He started his career for Jefferson High School in Monroe County in 7th grade. In 8th grade his team was 8-0. On entering high school they went 4-5 his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Gino and his fellow seniors strived for a winning season and finally came above .500 his senior year with a record of 5-4. Gino was a solid football player his entire life, but really excelled his junior year. As a senior he was a Captain and leader of his team. He had an excellent year as a senior. He played noseguard and offensive tackle. He intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD, and blocked several PAT’S, punts, and a FG. He was third on the team for tackles.
Gino did not play any other varsity sports in high school. He lifted and ran in the offseason.
Gino excelled in the weight room where he benched 346 pounds, squatted 480 pounds and leg pressed 1110. All in his strive for his final season in high school. Gino always praises his friends, family and especially his coaches for pushing him to his best football season and making it possible for him to play in this game. Gino said, “My coaches pushed me to lift, my family and friends really encouraged me to do my best and concentrate on football.”
