Since Gauge has always been on both the offensive and defensive line. He started playing on a flag football team in fourth grade. In sixth grade Gauge started playing tackle football for a local team called the O.Y.F.O. Then he played for Onsted’s Middle School football team were he played both sides of the line. In 9th grade he played offensive guard and defensive tackle. Gauge was brought up to the varsity team his sophomore year where he helped his team win a District Title in Division 5. In his junior year he led his team to a Lenawee County Athletic Association Second Team title which helped him earn Honorable Mention All State and First Team All LCAA for Offensive Line in 2008. As a senior he was named All State for Offensive Lineman, First Team All League for Offensive Tackle, for Defensive Lineman, and was a member of the 2009 Dream Team.
Gauge also participated in wrestling and track and field where he also earned notable honors. In wrestling he has two All State honors by placing 5th twice in the State Tournament in Division 3 and also an LCAA Title. All were in the 285 pound weight class. In track Gauge earned All State honors in discus as a sophomore by placing 4th in the State Tournament in Division 3.
Gauge thanked his parents, “for always being at each event supporting me and my sister and younger brother for being there and pushing me to be the best athlete I could be.” He gave a, “special thanks to Dr. Butch Plentz for helping me prepare mentally and physically for sports and for life’s journey.” He also thanked “all of my coaches for pushing me to my full potential.”
