Ethan is the son of Jo Anne and the late Steve Rennaker. He is the twin brother to Collin and younger brother to Brandon (23).

Ethan began his football career in third grade playing for the Dewitt Junior Panthers.  As a junior, he started as an inside linebacker for the Panthers, although undersized he led the team with 103 tackles. He earned first team All Conference (2010) and first team All Area (2010). Ethan was voted the defensive player of the year in 2010 by his teammates. As a senior, Ethan was named a team captain. He started the season strong but was hit with a couple injuries. He missed half of the game against rival Haslett with a concussion, then a few games later he broke his left hand but he was not going to be denied his senior season. Ethan played the last four games of the season with a “club”, but his stats for the last four games were his best for the season. He ended up leading his team for the second year in a row, with 137 tackles. Ethan was 1st team All League (2011), Lansing State Journal Dream Team (2011), AP All-State Honorable Mention (2011) and Detroit Free Press First Team All State (2011). He was voted Mr. Intensity by his teammates, as well as Defensive Player of the Year (2011), the only player in DeWitt football history to get that award two years in a row.

Ethan thanked his family and friends for “all the support that I was given over the years.” He also thanked his teammates, his head football coach, Rob Zimmerman, as well as his Linebacker Coach, John Vertalka. Ethan said, “I am very grateful to have had such an amazing coaching staff that helped me and pushed me to be a leader and to be the best football player I could be.  To play in the All Star game is a dream come true for me.”
