David began his football career in seventh grade. At the start of his sophomore year, he started on the varsity team at defensive tackle. Over the next three years, the Big Reds won two Huron League Championships, qualified for the state playoffs twice and won one District Championship. David also wrestled. He won two Individual District and Regional Championships, two Individual Huron League Championships, All State Honors, and was part of the 2009 team’s first ever Huron League Championship. In 2008, David was added to the state record book with 58 wins and just 4 losses. In track, David has contributed to the track team capturing three consecutive Huron League Team Championships. David was a captain for football, wrestling, and track. David earned 12 varsity letters in sports and academics.
David expressed his deepest appreciation to the Milan Community for always providing opportunities and avenues for the children of Milan to pursue and achieve their dreams. He expressed appreciation to the Western Michigan University Football program, staff and family; especially Head Coach Bill Cubit, Defensive Coordinator Steve Morrison and Defensive Line Coach Pete McCarty for believing in him, and for providing him a once in a lifetime opportunity. He also thanked and expressed his “deepest love and appreciation to my Mom and Dad and my brother, Thom. I will always cherish the memories of playing at his side as part of “Milan’s Fearsome Foursome.” David thanked, “Papa and Grandma Blackmon; Papa and Oma Dimond; Uncle Bob and Aunt Catherine Taylor, cousins Courtney and Dru Taylor, and Rachel Schulz for their unwavering love and support over the years.”
