Darius is the son of Lisa Phillips. He is the oldest of two children. His younger sister is Tamia Jackson, a sophomore at Robichaud/New Tech High. 

He started playing football in eighth grade during the summer for the PAL Detroit Dragons. He transferred from Cass Tech in tenth grade and had to sit out a season. As a junior he had 663 receiving yards for 26 receptions. He finished his senior season with 1021 receiving yards on 41 receptions. Darius considered Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Syracuse, and many other D2 schools before deciding to attend and play football at Western Michigan University. Darius was an All State, Blue Chip, All Area, and Dream Team receiver. 

Darius was a four sport athlete. He was All Area and All City in each of the four. 

Darius said “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my amazing support system. I thank my coaches, my mother, my second family (Eddie and Asheta Webb) for everything, and most of all my team, I love ya’ll”. He added, “I will never forget the Robichaud team and Dearborn Heights schools as I head to Western Michigan University.
