Courtney is the youngest of two children. His parents are Colette and Terrence Williams.

Courtney started his football career with the River Rouge Panthers Junior League. He attended Stronge Middle School and later Melvindale High School, where he helped lead the team to a league championship in 2009 and back-to-back state playoff appearances in 2009 and 2010. As a senior Courtney, caught 43 passes for 910 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also scored touchdowns rushing and on punt and kickoff returns. He was credited with 83 tackles and three interceptions on defense. In his junior and senior seasons combined he caught 61 passes for 1,273 yards and 18 touchdowns. Intercepted six passes, set a school record with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Courtney also earned three letters in both basketball and baseball and one in track.

Courtney will continue his football career on a football scholarship to Central Michigan University
