2011 Assistant Coach Tod Miller

Portage Northern High School

Coach Miller graduated from Mason High School in 1979. He graduated from Michigan State in 1984 with a dual bachelors degree in business and a teaching degree in distributive education. Tod continued his education at Michigan State and received his masters degree in the spring of 1986 in school counseling.

Coach Miller’s coaching career began at Mason High School in the fall of 1979 where he started coaching the freshmen. In the fall of 1984 he was hired as the head coach of the St. Loius Sharks where he coached for three years. In the fall of 1987 he coached and taught for one year at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central High School. In the fall of 1988 he was hired as the head coach of the Plainwell Trojans. Tod served as a head football coach/teacher/counselor/atheletic director/track coach and powerlifting coach over the next 19 years. While at Plainwell he received the Regional Coach of the Year Award twice. In the fall of 2007 Pete Schermerhorn hired Tod to be the defensive coordinator at Portage Northern where he has coached ever since.

Tod and his wife Tina, who is his biggest supporter, reside in Plainwell and have been married for three years. They have four children, Kody (7), Mackenzie (11), Kendra (19) and Caitlin (20). Kendra currently attends Ferris State University and is a member of the track team. Caitlin is a senior at Auburn University majoring in nursing.

Coach Miller said, “I am honored to have this opportunity to coach in the All Star game with such a great group of athletes and coaches. It is my hope to make this a fine and memorable game for all involved.
