Chris started playing football in the fifth grade on the South Lyon JV Panthers team. He has always been “a big kid” and “back then I was the pudgy kid.” My coaches always told me, “Groth, we’ll make you a man.” I started my freshman year on the JV team and got moved up to varsity for the playoffs, in which the team went to the semifinals. I have played on the varsity team for three complete years and have gone to the playoffs during all of them. Chris was made a captain in his senior year. He made the All State Honorable Mention list his junior year and the All State team his senior year.

Chris also wrestled in the fall. He placed fifth in the conference his junior year and was on the varsity team for two years. He also threw shot put and discus in the spring for the varsity track and field team.

Chris thanked his parents for “supporting me and encouraging me to do whatever I want to do. I thank my family as a whole for pushing me to do my best and work hard to accomplish my goals. I also thank my coaches for running me hard and pushing me to my limits. Most of all, I want to thank my team for being supportive on and off the field, making me the player I am today.”
